GST invoicing

The tax split is decided, not typed

Biztricks compares your registered state with your customer's place of supply and charges CGST and SGST or IGST accordingly. Tax is rounded once at the total, so the figure on the invoice is the figure someone gets computing it by hand.

On an intra-state supply the tax splits into equal CGST and SGST halves; on an inter-state supply the same total is charged once as IGST Same supply, ₹1,21,800 taxable at 18% Within your state Taxable ₹1,21,800 ₹10,962 CGST 9% ₹10,962 SGST 9% equal halves, by law Outside your state Taxable ₹1,21,800 ₹21,924 IGST 18%

How does Biztricks calculate GST?

It computes tax on the taxable value at the line's rate, rounds that once, and then splits it. On an intra-state supply CGST is half, rounded, and SGST is the remainder — so the two halves always add up to the tax exactly, to the paisa.

That last detail is the whole reason to trust the arithmetic. Round each half independently and CGST + SGST can drift one paisa away from the tax you printed above them, on an invoice that a tax officer may read line by line. Deriving SGST as the remainder makes the halves sum exactly by construction, every time, without a correction step.

Worked GST split on a taxable value of ₹1,21,800 at 18%
Intra-state supplyAmount
Taxable value₹1,21,800
CGST 9%₹10,962
SGST 9%₹10,962
Invoice total₹1,43,724

What prints on the invoice?

Everything an Indian tax invoice is expected to carry, and nothing that does not belong on it.

  • Your firm's legal name, GSTIN and registered state
  • Your customer's details and place of supply
  • An invoice number from a gapless sequence
  • HSN or SAC against each taxed line
  • Taxable value, CGST and SGST or IGST, and round-off
  • The total, and the total written out in words
  • Your bank details in the footer
  • Your signature block

Where does the invoice come from?

From the quote the customer accepted — one action, and every line, dimension, rate and group comes across.

You can also bill several accepted quotes onto one invoice when a job ran in stages, or raise a quick bill from scratch when there was no quote at all. Part payments are recorded against the invoice as they arrive, and what is still outstanding feeds straight into reports.

An invoice that should never have existed can be cancelled. Its number is not reused, because a gap in the register is a smaller problem than a number that means two different things.

What about HSN codes?

Biztricks will suggest an HSN or SAC code for an item, and will never apply one without you tapping it.

The format is validated, so a code that cannot be right is caught before it prints. But a suggestion is a suggestion: the classification of what you sell is a decision with tax consequences, and the app says so and tells you to confirm it with your own CA. Every seeded item in your trade's starter list already carries a code as a starting point.

What Biztricks does not do

  • No GST return filing — no GSTR-1, no GSTR-3B, no reconciliation with the portal.
  • No e-invoicing or IRN generation, and no QR code on the invoice.
  • No e-way bills.
  • No accounting ledgers, trial balance or P&L — Biztricks bills, it does not keep your books.
  • No bank reconciliation. Payments are recorded by hand against the invoice.

Questions

Questions about GST

Does Biztricks file my GST returns?

No. Biztricks produces GST tax invoices; it does not file returns. There is no GSTR-1 or GSTR-3B filing, no IRN e-invoicing, and no e-way bill generation. Your CA files from the invoices Biztricks produces, and you can export your data whenever they ask for it.

How does Biztricks decide between CGST/SGST and IGST?

By comparing your registered state with the customer's place of supply. Same state code, and it is an intra-state supply: the tax splits into CGST and SGST. Different state code — including the special codes 96 and 97 — and it is inter-state: the whole tax is IGST. You never pick which one applies, so you cannot pick wrong.

Can I enter a price that already includes GST?

Yes — enter the figure you agreed and Biztricks works backwards from it. That matters because a customer who agreed "₹50,000 all in" expects to see ₹50,000 on the invoice, not ₹49,999.83. Biztricks chooses the taxable value that reproduces your inclusive figure exactly.

Can I edit or delete a recorded payment?

Yes — a payment can be edited or deleted. That was chosen deliberately over the accounting-software convention of posting a reversing entry, because a small firm recording a part payment wrongly wants to fix it, not to learn double entry. The trade-off is that a deleted payment leaves no trail; if your CA needs one, keep the correction as a note on the invoice.

Can I raise an invoice without GST?

Yes, a document can be raised tax-free. When it is, the HSN and SAC codes do not print either — those belong on a tax invoice, and printing them on a document that charges no tax is the kind of small wrongness that makes a buyer distrust the rest of the page.
